I’m An Emo Kid, Mother - 5 Ways You Can Tell Whether Your Kid is An Emo
If you look at your child and you are wondering what type of species they are, then you are certainly not alone. The number of kids being sucked into the Emo culture is frightening and leaves a lot of people confused. Learning how to tell for sure you ended up with an Emo instead of a child is important.
First, do they have the exact same hair cut as their friends? You know the one with the bangs that hang annoyingly in front of their eyes.
Second, do they dress like all of their friends in the same weird and tortured looking clothes day in and day out?
Third, do they always seem to have a huge attitude? I know, teenagers have attitudes in general but the Emos are even worse trust me!
Fourth, do they listen to some type of "music" that sounds like the days when they would sit around in the kitchen banging together pots and pans? This is actually a very good clue that you have an Emo on your hands. Expect to hear these noises quite often.
Fifth, are you sitting around wondering exactly what that thing is that lives in your house? If you notice a strange smell as they walk by then you for sure have an Emo on your hands. Proceed with caution when interacting with one for your safety.

Dear person of first posting, it is obvious that you are, in fact, not a mother. I’m willing to bet that description of your “daughter” is actually about you. Also, notice how the author never said anything about Emos not loving animals/people. You took a typical stereotype from popular culture and used it in your post, therefore you are adding more insult to injury.
Dear person of second posting, I’m sure this isn’t true for all Emos, but most of them LIKE being labled. Just look at their usernames on Myspace/Vampire Freaks/where ever they get off on blogging. They usually include “Emo” in their user names.
I don’t hate emos, but I do think they can be pretty annoying at times. My best friend is Emo and he knows how to take a joke. Some of you need to follow in that advice.

This is a dreadful stereotype. I listen to typically ‘emo’ music and that doesn’t mean I have an ‘attitude’ worse then normal teenagers nor can I remember my music sounding like pots and pans being smashed together.
And what’s this about a smell? Admittable I smell pretty bad at the moment because I can’t wash my cast (which I got from trying to walk sideways and accidentally falling over [lol]) but ‘emos’ have a particular odor? now I’m curious…
Please don’t post your gross misinterpretationations about this musical genre and the people involved in it over the ‘net- people might believe your flawed ramblings.

lol wow, it’s so funny to see people think that they know everything about emo’s xD well let me enlighten you on some things.
Okay first off, not all emo’s cut (the mother of all stereotypes >_>) second, People think that all emo’s are depressed. NOT TRUE, im emo and a bunch of my friends are emo and we all have a good time, which includes Laughing, talking, saying jokes, being hyper, and messing with people, so were not the emotionless robots most people think
third, not all of us have the same hair style, theres alot of us with different hair styles, thats what we call ‘Expressing your self’ and fourth, not all emo’s wear black. we have a wide range of colors in our wordrobe (except when you have 2 different colored hair xD then you have to color cordinate XDD) these colors include, red, purple, pink, yellow, lime, green, and mostly all the colors of the rainbow.

I’m an emo mom . I adore my son with all my heart and how he dresses or what he does with his hair and what music he listens to doesn’t matter a shit to me ! I can understand the stupid mentality of backward thinking older generations but i can’t believe other teens are sooooo sick as to hate someone thats different. Emo’s are not prone to committing suicde any more than other labled teens. To be as open and honest as they are is refreshing in the youth of today. They have the intelligence to articulate their feelings in poetry which is extremely theraputic . Lay off them they do you no harm ! They have a place on this planet of ours just as you do and probably deserve it more for the shit they have to put up with . Why fear them so much ? Ok…this is stupid. What’s wrong with people being different? Everyone likes different things. And for music nothing is wrong with liking Hilary Duff or Carrie Underwood. However, nothing is wrong with bands like The Devil Wears Prada or Here I Come Falling. Stop making fun of others, cause it only makes you look ignorant and mean. Maybe if people got to know the people they make fun of they’d find out that they are actually not as bad as they think; and this goes for ALL stereo types. Personally I find it sick that people have to be seen as emo, goth, prep, nerd, jock, etc. PEOPLE ARE JUST PEOPLE! However, if you want to be “emo” or you want to be a “prep” fine. just don’t treat others like scum because they aren’t like you.
P.S. Maybe instead of worrying that your child is emo, maybe you should spend time with them Any child needs to feel loved. Also it doesn’t matter what stereo type your kids supposedly is, any kid can be depressed, and all cliché have kids who contemplate suicide.

I really don’t understand the nature of all the negative comments this blog seems to collect. Why do you all care so much? If you see something that upsets you, go to another site. Such “upsetting material” will always exist, and if you just turn around and handle the situation with grace you show your maturity and dignity as a person.
I was actually very amused by these articles. It sounds like the author had a lot of fun writing them! She touches upon many common stereotypes and she exposes them and her humor for the world to see and think, “Ha, common stereotypes, they’re so ridiculous!” This person who owns this very blog probably isn’t a horrible person. It’s fun to write about yourself and exaggerate your image. Try it sometime!
As for my own opinion, I can agree with some of the points that are given. I don’t really understand how following the emo style shows your individuality, it just looks kind of conformist. It’s like the “preps,” all looking basically alike by wearing their same brands. This may bring forth angry cries of rage from some folks out there, but it’s just the same! It’s two stereotypes that dress similarly to their peers and can draw forth incorrect assumptions!
So in conclusion, I don’t think that the writer of this blog should be getting such a bad rap. In fact, she’s probably enjoying all these negative comments. Like it or not, you’re contributing to the “emo standard” she promotes.

Ok. I am what I like to call a “Happy Emo.” The idea that this so-called “Mother of an Emo” would suggest and Emo child is not a person, as if “Emo” is some sub-race makes me sick.
But it also makes me laugh b/c I know this person is not a mother, and is in fact and Emo. You see half of the Emos in the world are doing it for attention and this person clearly want the attention that emo teens will have on a mother saying that.
In conclusion, STOP BEING A RETARD! Emos are poeple who are living how they want to live and they are not being forced to do anything. I’m choosing to be a “Happy EMo” and I don’t care if anyone says that’s impossible. I can wear whatever I makes me feel good and I WILL smile about it. I’m twelve year old girl, I’m not emo but I’m all of those things, I love hard rock music. I like the color black I wear it every single day, but I dont look what people would dub as emo. My bangs do hang infront of my eyes, but thats the way they are suppose to look. I hang out with a friend just like me. We aren’t emo we just like that stuff. And emo’s a culture not a label, so stop saying that the mothers dont know whats living in there house. You are being completly unreasonable.
